Nick Verreos Wears "Burqa Buddha" T-Shirt on THE RED CARPET

April 30th, 2008 - Fashion designer Samira Atash's "BURQA BUDDHA" t-shirt design is creating quite a buzz in Hollywood! Recently, Project Runway's Nick Verreos wore his own Burqa Buddha t-shirt to SVEDKA'S e.vil T-shirt launch to benefit "Heal the Bay" at Fred Segal on April 22, 2008 in Santa Monica, California. Celebrity attendance included Kim Kardashian, Jamie-Lynn Sigler, The MisShapes, Andrew Keegan, Minka Kelly, and more.

Nick Verreos is best known for his stand-out designs on Project Runway Season 2, and as a commentator on TV Guide Network that followed the Grammy's, Oscars, and Screen Actors Guild Awards in 2008. His designs have been worn by a number of actresses, such as "Desperate Housewives" Eva Longoria and Brenda Strong. Nick continues to make television appearances and teaches classes at FIDM in Los Angeles, where Lauren Conrad of "The Hills" was one of his students.

The BURQA BUDDHA original design is part of Samira Atash's popular UNI-TEE collection - stylish Fair Trade t-shirt designs that promote cultural understanding through messages of peace and unity. Manufactured by American Apparel, the t-shirts support the label's "no sweatshop" policy. The design echoes the spirit, soul, and strength of Afghan women, likening their plight to the historic Bamiyan statues that were destroyed by the Taliban, and features Gandhi's quote - "You can chain me, you can torture me, you can even destroy this body...but you will never imprison my mind". 10% of sales from BURQA BUDDHA t-shirts supports Project Artemis, a unique program that trains Afghan women in business, and are available in black, white, and brown for men and women.
